Even after Israel’s repeated failures, God re-establishes his covenant. In this move he does something significant. He reveals who He is. He is the God who is good in tragedy, the God who is loving, the God who is great. He is the God of gods, King of Kings, and His character is as we know him more and more is life giving.

The 10 commandments aren’t given in isolation and the laws that follow them aren’t given without purpose. In the second part of our examination of Sinai we look at how God’s standards point to fulfillment and God’s purpose for us.

Exodus is about more than the law, it is where we see the power of God’s covenant. His aim for his people and his good plans. Jumping into Exodus 19 we examine the calling God gives his people and the purpose He has for believers.

The Israelites complain, worry, and nag at God and the trip went from days to weeks. And if we are honest, we often find ourselves following suit. What are those things that slow us down? Those things that stop us from following after God as He commands?

Delivered at the Red Sea, the people of God find their need for God ever before them. In difficulty and in praise, we see how God is good and how God is worthy of praise.

Crossing out of Egypt, God sent his people back. This small detail is often missed, but what an incredibly difficult moment. Free from Pharaoh, God led his people back into the land of their oppressors. But to what end and what can we learn from this overlooked idea?

God brought his people out of Egypt, showing his power over the gods of Egypt, his sovereignty, and His goodness. God didn’t just hear his people, He moved to see them delivered. And the same God who delivered his people out of Egypt is the same God we worship today.

Pharaoh’s heart is a central theme to the biblical narrative of Exodus. But what does it mean that his heart was hardened? And what can we learn about God, ourselves, and sin in Pharaoh’s downfall.

The first two names we get in Exodus aren’t that of the Pharaoh, or some great leader, but rather it is the midwives; the slave women tasked with aiding in the brith of Hebrew children. But, even more amazing is how the bible lifts these up for embodying the very nature of a woman as they serve God in a no hope situation.
